You always tell me to be myself, yet you criticize me for standing out. You always say I’m unique, but you act as if I’m not special. You always want to individualize me, but then you expect me to conform. Society, you are what’s wrong with the world today. We all grow up being told by society to believe in ourselves. Why should we believe in ourselves, when society will just call us cocky and self-centered? That is why we start criticizing ourselves. Oh, but we can’t do that because we have it so well. When we criticize ourselves, society is there to remind us of the people who have it worse. We are told to never change for anyone except ourselves. Yet when we are ourselves, society tells us we are freaks. We are too fat, too weird, too ugly. How can we be ourselves if we aren’t good enough? Society plays these sick mind games with us. It tell us one thing, but destroy us for following orders. We learn how to conform to match every rule.
